LinkedIn Social: LinkedIn's next big engagement hook
Could LinkedIn fill the gap left by Facebook
Remember when Facebook was the go-to app for sharing our latest TV obsessions or favorite albums? Ten years ago, I’d eagerly post about my excitement for the next season of Sherlock or my Spotify Wrapped.
Not anymore. Facebook feels like a parents' club. And most of my friends have moved on.
Other platforms? Twitter, Threads, and Reddit feel like shouting to the world with no clear community. Instagram is optimized for mindless scrolling. Prioritizing creators over real engagement.
Here’s the big idea that fills this gap
LinkedIn Social - a dedicated space for non-work conversations with your curated connections. They are likely in similar life stages, get the same cultural references, and probably share common interests.
It's like sitting in a virtual lounge after work. Connect with your colleagues and classmates on TV shows, books, parenting, or the latest gaming trends.
The main feed stays professional. But with one tap, you can switch to Social for casual, relatable discussions. Keeping it opt-in ensures that, unlike a WhatsApp group, there's no need to first figure out who is interested in what.
Seems like a natural next step after LinkedIn’s recent foray into Games.
What do you think? Would you use a feature like this?
And what about the name? Other contenders in my list were LinkedIn Life (Work Life Balance 🙂) and LinkedIn After Hours.
